Project 1 Day 1

Have started to draft the image for my Philodendron painting - which will essentially a play on pattern in the background (positive space) and the plant will be the deep green / black (negative space) in the foreground... element of design being the real focus.

Have attempted to load the drawings and earlier design sketches without luck yet.... but these will come.

I am mighty pleased with the day's effort, even though nothing on the canvas as yet... but I have a definite vision of what I want to put down on canvas which is 80% of the deal!

Perhaps feeling a bit more relaxed is generating a few more flexible ideas - as opposed to nagging to do lists related to work... so I will maximise my time off work this term.

My intention is to get a couple of canvases on the go at the same time in my studio, space permitting.

The Start

Well... not really the start. I have been painting for many years with sporadic tuition but am mainly self taught. Went to art school and learned the basics... however... you really learn by making all the mistakes. and there have been many... and many wasted materials.

So today I decided to start taking stock of what I have and will continue to learn, and to map a journey forward, taking in and appreciating the works of others as well along the way. It is never too late to start this and I have seen some inspirational blogs that have motivated me big time.

This is the very first post... and now I will see how this looks on the wallpaper I have chosen ... hopefully awesome!
